Ukraine’s Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Rybak resigned on Saturday due to health reasons, Vice Speaker Ruslan Koshulinsky said.
“I want to inform you that today Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Rybak tendered his resignation due to illness and treatment. He asked to be relieved from his duties as chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament),” Koshulinsky told a parliament meeting.
Rybak, 68, is known as one of the “founding fathers” of the ruling Party of Regions and a long-term ally of President Viktor Yanukovych.
He was elected the parliament speaker in December 2012 for a five-year term.
