Ever wake up next to someone…and feel like you’ve made a big mistake? You’re not the only one. Previous research shows that people asked to describe the one memorable regret in their lives are more likely to cite something involving love or sex than any other type of regret. But what exactly are the biggest sexual regrets? For women, the biggest sex woe is having lost their virginity to the wrong person, according to recent research published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior.
As part of a series of three studies designed to look at the differences in sex regrets between men and women, researchers from the University of Texas at Austin asked participants to list the things they were most remorseful for, sexually. For women, the top three answers were: losing their virginity to the wrong person (24 percent), cheating on someone (23 percent), and moving too fast sexually (20 percent).
Unsurprisingly, men were much more likely to regret inaction (not having made a move) than having slept with the wrong person. Their most common responses were: being too shy to make a sexual advance (27 percent), not being more sexually adventurous when they were young (23 percent) and not being more sexually adventurous when they were single (19 percent).
