Weather disrupted flights and train services in Japan today, as the meteorological agency issued a heavy snow warning for central Tokyo for the first time in 13 years.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued the warning for 23 wards in central Tokyo, with as much as 50 centimeters (20 inches) of snow expected in the Kanto and Koshin regions, which include the Tokyo metropolitan area, by tomorrow morning. Voters are headed to the polls tomorrow to pick Tokyo’s next governor.
ANA Holdings Inc. (9202) canceled all domestic flights after 3 p.m. today from Tokyo’s Haneda airport, the Japanese airline said in a fax statement. ANA earlier halted 33 domestic flights from and arriving at Haneda, affecting about 7,900 passengers, according to another fax.
Japan Airlines Co. (9201) canceled 265 local flights as of 10:30 a.m. and plans to halt all domestic flights from and to Haneda after midday, the company said in a fax.
Train lines operated by East Japan Railway Co. (9020) have been suspended, the company said. Some bullet trains are running at a slower speed, Central Japan Railway Co. (9022) said on its website, Bloomberg informs.
