Sir Paul McCartney surprised fans in London’s iconic Covent Garden with an impromptu set from inside a decked out lorry.
The Beatles bassist performed five songs from his sixteenth solo album ‘New’ to 2000 fans in the piazza of the well know busking area, aftering pulling off a similar stunt in New York’s Times Square last week, Entertainmentwise.com informs.
The pop legend announced the gig around an hour before the event by tweeting: “I’m getting ready to pop up in Covent Garden at 1pm today. Oh baby!”
Taking to the brightly coloured stage Paul greeted the expectant crowd that had amassed:
“Good afternoon. Welcome to Covent Garden. We’re just going to do some songs from our new album so get your phones out… As if they weren’t already.”
Before playing his latest single ‘Queenie Eye’ Paul mused that: “Things have changed since the ’60s. We’d have been coming in from the clubs round about now, never mind having to get up and sing.”
