The Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State, Victoria Nuland was in Armenia within the frameworks of territorial visit. Her first stop was Baku, where she had announced during the press conference that “arrested azerbaijani saboteurs have to be returned to Azerbaijan as humanitarian gesture of goodwill”.
The issue raised by Nuland was discussed in Armenia too, told press speaker of NKR president, David Babayan to Araratnews.am.
“We’ve told them half joke-half seriously that we are ready to discuss the return of one of them if they give us Ramil Safarov”, said Babayan and added that they haven’t received any written suggestion.
According to David Babayan, that kind of suggestion is odd: “What would USA do if they were suggested to release Dzhokhar Tsarnaev?”
Asked whether they had answered this way to Nuland, David Babayab said that they have informed whom it concerned.
NKR press speaker reminded that the guilt of saboteurs have been proven in an open case. “Those men (Dilham Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev) were accused and their guild have been proven in an open, transparent case, where representatives of mass media, human rights’ defenders and NGO representatives were present. Unlike azerbaijanis we haven’t taken revenge”.
