Moscow is putting up a statue of French-Armenian international singer Charles Aznavour, Moskovskiy Komsomolets (MK) Russian daily reports.
The local authorities are currently conducting a survey among the Moscow residents to find out the best place for the statue, with the legend’s songs to be performed at the Moscow International House of Music if the statue is installed in the terrace of the building.
Speaking to the newspaper, Chairman of Russia’s Javakhk Diaspora Aghasi Arabyan said the Moscow City Duma has approved the idea of erecting the statue in the city center, but a final decision on the exact place of the statue needs to be made before finalising its sketch.
The statue will be made of bronze through the funds of the local Armenian community.
“Aznavour spent most of his childhood in Russian surroundings. His parents spoke Russian and he loved to visit Moscow. This statue will become a place of attraction and a symbol of Russian-French, Russian-Armenian and, in general, multinational friendship,” Arabyan said.
The world-famous singer passed away on 1 October at the age of 94.
