It was their attempt to cash in on their popularity in the lucrative Latin American market.
But it has emerged Jennifer Lopez and her estranged husband Marc Anthony are being sued for $25m over claims they stole the idea for their reality show Q’Viva! The Chosen.
Disgruntled John Jacobs filed a lawsuit in New York claiming he contacted their production companies about his show idea Miami Beach: The Game in 2007 and 2008.
According to TMZ, he is claiming Marc Anthony Productions and J.Lo’s Nuyorican Productions initially expressed interest before eventually ignoring his phone calls.
Mr Jacobs asserts his idea was to have two well-known Latino celebrities roam around in search of a superstar.
While his idea never came to fruition, a matter of years later Jennifer and Marc joined forces to star in Q’Viva.
He claims he was shocked when he started to see promotions for the show featuring the couple he had previously targetted.
The reality show was shot around Latin American and took the superstar exes to more than a dozen countries in search of the best dancers, singers and musicians.
In the lawsuit he writes: ‘They were so similar that they were twins.’
Mr Jacobs claims he tried to get in touch with both companies as well as Univision to try and sort out the matter, but he never heard back.
Marc Anthony’s company have declined to comment on the lawsuit.
The couple announced in 2011 they were splitting after five years of marriage, with Marc filing for divorce a year later, though the matter is yet to be finalised.
