Azeri leader Ilham Aliyev has thanked the country’s voters for electing him to a third term in office during the October 9 presidential polls.
“I am grateful to my people who displayed their trust in me and reelected me as their president. I would like to assure the Azeri nation that I will always serve my people truthfully and will always defend the state interests of Azerbaijan,” he said.
“During these elections, the Azeri people expressed their will in a transparent and free atmosphere. These presidential elections in Azerbaijan marked a triumph of democracy,” Aliyev said.
“I believe that the votes cast for me are the votes cast for independence, freedom and our happy future. I am proud that all of my initiatives have become a reality in recent years,” Aliyev said.
The Azeri leader reaffirmed his commitment to building a genuinely democratic state in Azerbaijan and stepping up the crackdown on corruption, unemployment and poverty.
“We have programs dealing with all of these issues,” he said.
“I, as President, will always advocate national interests and will work to maintain the high standards of living of my people,” he said.
