The main German soccer newspaper and website published this Thursday (11.11.2013) the interest of Schalke 04 on the captain of Real Madrid, Iker Casillas.
Casillas would join the German side in January, on loan, until May, with the three parts negotiating the Spaniard’s future after in the Summer. Behind Diego López, in the goalkeeper hierarchy, in La Liga games, Casillas is looking for more minutes, heading to the World Cup.
The two time European Champion with La Roja, would not only find playing time but also fill the gap left by Manuel Neuer in 2010, when he joined Bayern Munich. Timo Hilderbrand has been the keeper for the last seasons but is yet to convince the fans (it will take even more time after conceding an easy goal against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League game).
After the clash against Juventus in the UCL, where Casillas gets to play, the 32 years-old answered ironically, not talking about his future though.
“I’m happy, Buffon offered me his congratulations at the end of the game,” said Casillas, 32. “These days it’s difficult to get into the team so when I have the opportunity to play I have to be at my maximum level in order that the coach keeps faith in me. It’s not easy only playing every two weeks but that’s the way it is.”
Iker Casillas can follow the example of his ex-teammate, Raúl González, who, at 34, played two brilliant seasons in Gelsenkirchen, averaging near 0.5 goals per game.
