The hijacker of an Ethiopian Airlines plane forced to land at Geneva Airport has been arrested, Swiss police said.
Police spokesman Jean-Philippe Brandt told The Associated Press that ‘the situation is under control’ and nobody on the flight was injured.
Ethiopian Airlines said the plane, a Boeing 767-300, was destined for Rome and had been ‘forced to proceed to Geneva’.
The airline’s website says flight ET702 landed safely and ‘all passengers and crew are safe.’ It gives no further details.
Brandt said the plane made an unscheduled landing in the Swiss city at 6am Monday. He said authorities are checking the plane.
Geneva airport spokesman Bertrand Staempfli said the airport was temporarily closed.
A flight tracking app for mobile devices showed the flight circling over the Swiss city several times before landing, Daily Mail informs.
