Harrison Ford has undergone successful surgery on his leg, injured June 11 on the “Star Wars” set.
Ford’s publicist Ina Treciokas released a statement Thursday disclosing that the 71-year-old actor had broken his leg after sustaining a bad ankle injury during filming at Pinewood Studios near London.
“Harrison Ford’s left leg was broken in an accident,” she said. “His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly. He’s doing well and looks forward to returning to work.”
Ford, who plays the iconic Han Solo character in the “Star Wars” franchise, was injured when a hydraulic door fell down and hit him. He was airlifted to a hospital shortly after the incident.
Filming on the J.J. Abrams-directed “Star Wars: Episode VII” has continued since the accident. The Disney-Lucasfilm tentpole hits theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
Ford is starring along with original “Star Wars” cast members Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill in the film alongside newcomers John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, Variety informs.
