Number of Britons, asking for French citizenship in connection with the Brexit, increased by 254% or 3.5 times (up to 1,400) in 2016, Le Monde reported quoting French Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Those applying for French citizenship are mostly elderly Britons who are already living in France.
During the interview, they say that Brexit forced them to ask for citizenship, as they are afraid that they will not be able to be in the territory of France legally after the end of negotiations on Brexit.
The procedure of obtaining the French citizenship takes on average one and a half years.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of France, 439 Britons officially received citizenship in 2016, Gazeta reported.
