Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and is scheduled to have talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the event.
According to a press release issued by the Russian president’s official website on Monday, Putin is scheduled to meet with a number of presidents and prime ministers, including Erdoğan.
On the sidelines of the Sochi Olympics’ opening ceremony, Putin will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev on Thursday.
More than 40 foreign heads of state and government are expected to attend the opening ceremony on Friday, according to the press release. Around 60 foreign leaders also plan to attend the Sochi Olympics and Paralympics, the release says.
