The Tuesday before Thanksgiving was off to a mostly smooth start for air travelers through mid-morning, though the threat of major problems from a developing coastal storm loomed for Wednesday – one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Only about 200 flights had been canceled nationwide as of 6:40p.m. ET Tuesday, according to FlightStats. Only one airport had more than 20. Charlotte had 35, though even that number didn’t indicate a major disruption.
However, delays had become a concern at several airports by evening, including atAtlanta, Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver all counting 80 or more delayed departures, according to FlightStats.
Atlanta had a whopping 500 delayed departures, but — in good news for fliers — only five canceled departures and just six canceled arrivals, according to FlightStats.
Overall, the nationwide count of flight disruptions would not be considered extreme by typical winter-weather standards.
