You will know that presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have signed the Eurasian Union agreement today in Astana. Araratnews.am made an interview with political analyst Edgar Vardanyan concerning this issue.
What news can we expect?
Probably, there will be reservations from the sides. Anyway, seemingly, it will be only economic union. Kirgizstan will also join the union by the end of the year.
Our problem is the following: Serzh Sargsyan announced that Armenia wishes to be a co-founder. But we saw that the format contains three members: Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. They want to be distinguished as founders. Kazakhstan will always voice issues that worry Azerbaijan, at least Karabakh and will try to get some dispositions from us concerning that issue. Kazakhstan and Belarus have talked about this many times and noted that the Union has many conflicting points. They realize that this is one of imperialistic plan of Russia and do not wish to empower Russia. That’s the reason they want the establishment to remain as economic.
What position will Artsakh be?
I think that the sides will close their eyes on Artsakh issue. It is understandable that they will constantly discuss the issue but Artsakh will be seen as a part of Armenia. They will accept Artsakh’s de facto independence. Armenia and Artsakh will be seen as one whole economic region and Artsakh’s production will be labeled as “Made in Armenia”, said he.
