The settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is impossible without the direct participation of Stepanakert in the talks.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, told the aforesaid to RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.
According to him, during their visits to the region, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, as well as the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, meet with the leadership of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). “Nagorno-Karabakh is indeed involved in the negotiation process, but at the current stage not in a fully-fledged format, that is, there are no direct talks between the Karabakh and Azerbaijani side because of the reluctance of the latter,” Nalbandian said.
“The settlement of the conflict is impossible without the participation of Nagorno-Karabakh. The mediators understand this very well and speak about this. The Azerbaijani side is simply pretending it doesn’t understand, hiding its head in the sand, although all the working documents discussed in the recent years enshrine immediate participation of the Karabakh side in the development of the agreement on the comprehensive settlement of the conflict,” the FM said.
