With the motion of Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan, newly appointed minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan has ordered to take steps toward avoiding placing former law enforcement officers with other inmates in the same cell.
Former employees of Internal Affairs ministry and National Security Service, as well as 1st Deputy of Head of Judicial Bailiffs Service of Judicial Department are in the same cell with other prisoners.
Keeping former employees of law enforcements with other prisoners is a legal demand. Keeping them in the same cell may lead to physical abuse and degrading treatment against them. With the motion of the Ombudsman, Head of Penitentiary Department has been instructed to keep the legal demand and exclude such cases.
Justice ministry had previously denied existence of such cases; however Violence Prevention Mechanism of the Defender has realized monitoring and recorded those violations.
Staff of the Ombudsman welcomes the steadiness of the Ministry of Justice and expects productive cooperation.
