The Vatican believes that Armenia and Azerbaijan need to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by means of peace talks.
“Resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is not the affair of the Catholic Church,” said Father Vladimír Fekete, the Catholic Church Prefect of Azerbaijan, reported Haqqin.az news agency of the country. “It should be resolved by politicians.”
Father Fekete stressed that the Pope is committed to the peaceful means for the resolution of conflicts in the world.
“The Pope believes that war could provoke a new wave of violence,” he added.
The Catholic Church prefect of Azerbaijan also underscored the need to seek diplomatic measures to achieve a pacific resolution to the Karabakh conflict.
