US authorities chasing high-flying fraud Jordan Belfort for stolen millions say his earnings in Australia are unclear.

Belfort, who was jailed for 22 months for defrauding US investors and ordered to pay $110 million in restitution, is starting a motivational speaking tour of Australia within weeks.

His exploits were popularised in the Hollywood hit, The Wolf of Wall St.

Sydney-based agency The Fordham Company, which manages television and sporting personalities Sophie Monk, Lisa Wilkinson, Richie Benaud OBE and Mark Taylor, is representing Belfort during his tour.

Belfort has claimed he would make more money as a motivational speaker than he did duping investors as a stockbroker in the 1990s.

But the US Department of Justice claims it cannot subpoena records from The Fordham Company because it is based in Australia.

“Belfort claims that his agreement with the company is oral and that there are no written agreements or contracts,” the US Attorney’s Office wrote in a letter.

Belfort stormed from a 60 Minutes interview when pressed by journalist Liz Hayes on whether this was an effort to conceal his income in Australia, Herald Sun informs.
