For the latest installment of their ongoing video series, the folks at Red Wing are giving us a look behind the curtain — or, rather, the factory door — to see just what goes into making their ruggedly stylish shoes and boots. The focus here is the leather. Namely, the process of cutting it, which requires a trained eye, a steady hand, and years of experience (many of Red Wing’s leather cutters have more than two decades under their belt). It’s something a machine can’t do, only a person. Not a science, but an art. And the end result is some supremely handsome footwear, made not just to look good, but to serve its wearer well for years. Check out the video to see how it all comes together.
