There are few things more painful for actors than applauding their rivals after they scoop and Oscar.
But no-hoper nominees such as Jonah Hill, Christian Bale and Meryl Streep can console themselves with the fact they will be given generous $55k gift bags at this year’s Academy Awards.
Watches, jewellery and luxury holidays are just some of the goodies being given to the rank outsiders simply for turning up to salute the night’s winners.
Explaining why luxury firms are falling over themselves to hand over freebies for the Everybody Wins bags, Distinctive Assets founder Lash Fary told Variety: ‘To be part of the film industry’s biggest night on any level is thrilling.
‘We always look forward to introducing celebrities to an array of companies with fabulous gifts to share, but it’s particularly fun to be able to do so when you know it will truly brighten someone’s day.’
Of course, the bitter irony is the multimillionaire stars being given the swag are in the lucky position of not needing the expensive gifts in the first place.
Still it is unlikely the megarich celebrities will turn down the chance to pick up:

- A Swiss-made Slow Watch
- Jan Lewis Designs bangle bracelets
- Luxury vacation packages to the Canadian Rockies, Mexico and Japan
