Armenia is becoming a parliamentary republic, and we did not simply change the country’s PM, political analyst Levon Shirinyan said commenting on Karen Karapetyan’s appointment as Armenia’s Prime Minister.

“It is equivalent to a chancellor’s post and is based on the German model,” he said.

The political analyst thinks that the crisis, which started in Armenia and Artsakh in April, as well as the armed rebellion organized by the Sasna Dzrer group forced the Kremlin to conduct balanced negotiations.

He says Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan masters the technology of politics and no one will tell him to leave his post one day.

“If I were him, I would quickly consolidate power in my hand. After the formation of the new cabinet, I would assume the functions of a chancellor and no one would be able to disturb or bother me,” Mr. Shrinyan said.

The political analyst does not want Karen Karapetyan to be remembered as an ordinary premier.

“The new prime minister can work with old and new persons. He could compromise on certain issues because he needs to think about our economy and the poor situation of the country. I think there must be a gentleman’s agreement.” He added.

Levon Shirinyan says the new constitution opens up new opportunities for the new PM if the latter really wants to have his contribution to the history of his nation.
