‘Judging from echoes of western, as well Russian experts, Obama’s letter to Ilham Aliyev, where he had noted that this is a historical chance, I believe that there really IS a chance and it really IS historical. And the chance is that Karabakh conflict was incited by Russia, it is preserved by Russia and is Russia’s favorite conflict’, said analyst Ruben Mehrabyan during his interview with araratnews.  He believes that the regulation of Karabakh conflict is  not profitable for Russia, as it allows the control over Armenia and Azerbaijan and also allows inhibit their flow towards West.

‘Russia is not excited about war, but it is not interests in solving the conflict either’, said Mehrabyan.

Talking about the activities of Minsk Group, he noted:

‘What is a Minsk Group? 2 western envoys plus Russia, and if the West talks about a historical chance, then the it has such a chance which is Camp David agreement between Israel and Egypt, which brought not only peace, but also let Russia out of this conflict.

Answering our question concerning connections between Abdullah Gul’s visit to Baku and Serzh Sargzyan’s visit to Stepanakert, especially that Turkey has once again connected NKR conflict with opening borders, Ruben Mehrabyan said that he will be neutral talking about the future, but added that the flow of such news from media has but one reason, to prevent the regulation process.

‘Nevertheless, we must note that experts have at last started evaluating Russia’s role in the territory more soberly, saying that it is impossible to preach peace on one hand and threaten with staring a war on the other, meanwhile arming both sides. It means underestimating people’s mental abilities. The problem is to reinvent Russia’s role in this conflict, which is necessary to the conflict sides, observers and there also is a need to look at territorial problems with a fresh sight’.
