In the year 2015 there were 989 official cars in Armenia. In the year 2016 the authorities resolved to increase such cars by 83. As a result, currently in Armenia there are 1072 official cars. According to the budget as of the year 2016, 1.2 billion AMD was spent on the maintenance of 1072 official cars, but this sum does not include the remuneration of the drivers.
The issue of inefficient expenditure of the budget means has been raised for numerous times. It is indeed a luxury for the poor Armenia. The war on the first line is still under way. According to the official data the Defense Army has 44 victims, over 100 wounded and two dozens are missing. Will this incident sober the acting authorities, particularly under the circumstance when Serzh Sargsyan made an announcement in Germany that the Armenian soldiers are fighting with the weapons of 1980s? He underscored that the wasted sum might have been used for modernizing the military equipment.
A political scientist Aghasi Yenokyan in an interview with Araratnews.am interpreted the announcement of Serzh Sargsyan. He pointed out that the authorities are leading a luxurious life. But there are more profound issues regarding the low level of our armament. The matter concerns all types of armament. He also noted that Armenia acquired contemporary armament, but the point is that the tanks are outdated. “The tanks are outdated, but this missilery and the antitank systems are all new and modern”, he said.
As for the visit of Medvedzev, Serzh Sargsyan and Hovik Abrahamyan expressed their concern and stated that the Russian Federation keeps on equipping Azerbaijan with weapons and responded to the question as to whether it is high time to review the relations, the politician replied, “Sure, but I think that the Armenian authorities at this point are not prepared to take that step”. The basic issue of the Armenian-Russian relations is that the Armenian authorities lack legitimacy, they receive such legitimacy from Kremin. Hence, they cannot but obey Kremlin.
Aghasi Yenokyan also considers the opinion of Hovik Abrahamyan incorrect regarding the fact that if Azerbaijan does not buy weapons from the Russian Federation, it will buy them from Turkey. “We are not sure to what extent Turkey will be able to sell weapons on its own as a member-state of NATO from a legal point of view”.
