And now ageing heartthrobs Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are set to reunite in a motor racing movie set at the iconic 24 Hours Of Le Mans.
But instead of playing a maverick racing driver such as in his signature turn in Days Of Thunder, 51-year-old Tom will instead play motorsport pioneer Carroll Shelby .
According to the Hollywood Reporter he will play the driver turned ace engineer, who raced his way to victory in the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside Englishman Roy Salvadori before his attention to design.
However the film will concentrate on the epic construction war between the Ford Motor Company and Italian sports car designer Enzo Ferrari.
The battle finally came to a head at the 1966 Le Mans race, with his Shelby American supporting Ford in its successful bid to win the race with a mid-engined Ford GT40.
But while this may excite the petrolheads, it is the reunion of two of the silver screen’s biggest heartthrobs that will be thrilling the more casual cinema fans.
