Japan attaches importance to friendly relations with Armenia, Foreign Minister Taro Kono said on Monday at a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital.
This marks the first visit of a Japanese foreign minister to Armenia.
“We have discussed issues on closer cooperation between Armenia and Japan with Minister Mnatsakanyan. For instance, Japan will cooperate with Armenia in the sphere of preparation of young diplomats, attorneys and other specialists,” the minister said.
The Japanese FM also unveiled his country’s plans to facilitate the visa issuance process for the Armenian citizens. Moreover, according to Minister Kono, Japan will join the international support for the expected snap parliamentary elections in Armenia.
