Head of “People in need” NGO Tatevik Bejanyan said today during the press conference that there are no precise records in Armenia and that the number of emigrants is known indirectly or through resource centres.
“80% of emigrants are leaving to find a job, 90% of which leave for Russia. The sex division is the same: 77% are men and 23% are women. The latters are wives of the men that have emigrated. Age group is 26-55”, said Bejanyan.
Majority of emigrants have secondary education and those who have higher education, are unable to find a job suiting their profession.
“Most people have lack of information. They don’t know where they are going, what documents they should provide in Russia for getting a work permission”, said Bejanyan.
She also noted that those migrants who are abused abroad, do not voice about it when they return.
“They think it’s a shame for an Armenian man to be abused abroad. We explain them that it is a crime and it must be voiced’.
