The vice speaker of Germany’s parliament on Tuesday reiterated Bundestag’s support to the OSCE Minsk Group efforts towards reaching a breakthrough over Nagorno-Karabakh, calling for strong efforts to maintain and reinforce the recently agreed ceasefire.
At a joint news conference with Eduard Sharmazanov, the vice speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly, Edelgard Bulmahn said her country does not see any chances of a military solution to the conflict.
“We are confident that the problem cannot and will not have a military solution. We call upon both sides to respect the recently reached ceasefire agreement. The establishment of monitoring mechanisms along the Line of Contact will be a key precondition in preventing a future escalation of the conflict. The expansion of the OSCE special commissioner’s headquarters staff will be an additional component in the process for establishing peace,” she said, reaffirming Germany’s interest in preventing future tensions.
“As Germany has assumed the OSCE presidency, Foreign Minister Steinmeier will invest his personal efforts towards establishing peace,” Ms Bulmahn added.
