Gary Becker, a University of Chicago professor who received the Nobel Prize in economic sciences and is credited with pioneering the approach to economics as the study of human behavior, died Saturday at age 83. Becker’s stepson, Mike Claffey, said Becker died at Northwestern Hospital from complications after an extended illness.
