Former Defence Minister David Kezerashvili was detained in France through Interpol. This information was confirmed by the Interior Ministry on Tuesday, but no details of the detention were announced.
Kezerashvili was wanted by Interpol after accusations were made against him in early 2013. He is now awaiting trial which will decide whether he will face extradition.
The investigators estimated the damage caused to the country as a result of Kezerashvili’s activity stands at $50 million. According to their data, the former minister received more than $12 million as a result of fraud.
The investigation is being conducted on four articles of the Georgian Criminal Code — 210 (production, sale or use of counterfeit credit or payment cards), 214 (breach of the rules associated with the transportation of products via the Georgian customs border), 338 (bribery) and 362 (production, sale or use fake documents, stamps or blanks), Trend.az informs.
