A number of Dell Latitude 6430u owners have complained that their notebooks smell of cat urine.
The problem was first bought to light by a posting made by a owner on the Dell support community website. A user calling themselves Three West reported that the system he received was fine except that it “smells as if it was assembled near a tomcat’s litter box,” adding that “it is truly awful!”
The user reported that the smell was coming from the keyboard area. Several other owners have also reported that their Latitude 6430u notebooks suffer from the same problem.
Another owner added “I thought for sure one of my cats sprayed it, but there was something faulty with it so I had it replaced. The next one had the same exact issue. It’s embarrassing taking it to clients because it smells so bad.”
Following an investigation Dell claims that the “smell is not related to cat urine or any other type of biological contaminant, nor is it a health hazard” and confirmed that the problem was down to the manufacturing issue which had now been resolved.
“If you order an E6430u now, it will not have the issue,” wrote a Dell support agent.
