UN foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has held talks on Tuesday with Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Maja Kocijancic, Ashton’s spokeswoman, has informed.
“Catherine Ashton had a meeting with Yulia Tymoshenko this morning,” Kocijancic said.
They discussed EU financial support to Ukraine and the formation of a new Ukrainian government.
“The sides discussed the Ukrainian situation and exchanged opinions about ways out of the crisis. They touched upon the first steps Ukraine and the EU needed to take towards stabilization and restoration of Ukraine’s European course. An EU financial and economic support package was a separate item on the agenda; a decision regarding it may be made quickly and Ukraine will be able to recover from the biggest economic crisis in its history,” a report said.
The UN foreign policy chief went for another meeting in Kiev on February 24.
She began her visit with laying flowers in honor of the casualties of the clashes in the Ukrainian capital. Later in the day she held talks with the newly-appointed Ukrainian acting President and Parliament Speaker, Alexander Turchinov.
Ashton also met caretaker Finance Minister Yuri Kolobov, candidate for Prime Minister Pyotr Poroshenko, the head of the Party of Regions’ parliamentary faction Alexander Yefremov, the head of the UDAR Party Vitaly Klitschko and the Svoboda Party’s head Oleg Tyagnybok and the Batkivschyna Party leader Arseny Yatsenuyk.
The main topic on the agenda is debates over the possibility of providing Ukraine with international financial aid.
