35 year old Turkish actor Dennis Barish, and 32 year old Hovhannes Adzhinyan, actor of the Yerevan Pantomime Theatre established world record for the length of handshake today in Tbilisi.
Beginning the handshake on December 6 at 2040 hours Moscow time in the Rica Park on the Kura river embankment, they remained in such a state for exactly 43 hours. Adzhinyan and Barish did not let go of each other’s hands, sometimes sitting on chairs placed on the stage. From time to time the organizers treated them to tea and chocolate bars, while the actors continued shaking hands, which ended today at 15:40 Moscow time. Both feel good, they said, though a little tired.
The stage was set at the initiative of a number of Armenian, Turkish, Georgian and Russian non-governmental organizations. Organizers and participants of the event said they organized it “in order to change the tonality of relations between Armenia and Turkey,” and the venue, Georgia was specially, “a country that is a transit area, and a bridge between Armenia and Turkey.”
The previous record for the duration of the handshake was established in 2011 in New York. At that time, two Nepalese continued shaking hands 42 hours 35 minutes. Information about today’s event, including video footage, will be submitted as an application for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records, The Voice of Russia informs.
