President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the country’s Armed Forces, visited the Defense Ministry on Monday. There he introduced to the supreme officer corps the new Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan and Head of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Movses Hakobyan.
The President touched on the circumstances, which were considered while making the decision. In this context, Sargsyan spoke in detail about the role of the Defense Minister and Head of the General Staff in the state governance system under the new Constitution.
In his words, the military diplomacy, as well as the organization of purchases both inside and outside the country is acquiring greater significance. The President attached importance to the growing importance of the military education and military and patriotic breeding.
He also stressed the need to improve the social condition of the servicemen, as well as those who ever served in the Armed Forces.
Sargsyan expressed conviction in the capacities of Vigen Sargsyan and thanked now already ex-Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan for his long and hard work.
The ceremony of introducing the Defense Minister and Head of the General Staff was followed — in accordance with the established tradition – by the ceremony of transfer of posts. The former Minister and Head of General Staff handed to their successors the symbols of power and standard.
