The bog of unawareness

Almost 2 and a half months have passed since Serzh Sargsyan’s announcement in Moscow. So many texts have been published during this time both condemning and supporting the decision of joining the Custom’s Union. Representatives of social-political fields have come with their opinions and comments concerning Serzh Sargsyan’s decision.

Armenian authorities are remaining neutral. Their definitions concerning the Custom’s Union limits just by noting that this decision has not been forced on them and that Armenia is sovereign and will not surrender it.

Surely, it’s understandable that other countries joining the Union have no idea about it, which doesn’t even exist on a paper.

First of all, nobody doubts that Serzh Sargsyan’s decision was forced.

Secondly, all announcements concerning sovereignty vanished in a second after Russian ambassador to Armenia Volinkin announced to ‘Freedom’ radio that Armenia has to surrender a part of its self-determination to Russia after joining the Custom’s Union and so will other countries that also join it.

For sake of justice, we should note that all confirmations of Armenian authorities seem odd now.

EU members have also surrendered some part of their sovereignty. This was the example Russian ambassador had used. However, the latter doesn’t note that the EU was not created upon cooperation and equal principles, there is no obvious hegemony and an aggressive country like Russia, which forces the joining of the Union.
