Russia’s aircraft-maker Sukhoi is to build the country’s first 20-ton drone by 2018, a source with the Russian military industry has said.
It was reported earlier the jumbo drone would be a spin-off of the fifth-generation T-50 fighter jet.
A smaller drone of five tons is also due by 2015-2016. It is being designed by Russia-based contractor Sokol.
The announcements came after the country’s defense chief, Sergei Shoigu, urged UAV-makers to pick up the pace, Voice of Russia, RIA informs.
