Paul McCartney Plays for Stars in ‘Queenie Eye’

Paul McCartney plays unwitting host to a roster of high-profile friends in his new video for “Queenie Eye,” in which Rolling Stone‘s latest cover star is joined by the likes of Johnny Depp, Sean Penn, Meryl Streep, Kate Moss, Jeremy Irons and Jude Law in a studio he’s quite familiar with, Abbey Road. But it doesn’t happen all at once.

Directed by Simon Aboud, the video begins as McCartney heads to a grand piano in Studio 2, just as the upbeat song kicks in. “There were rules you never told me,” he sings on the tune, about a game he played in Liverpool as a child. As he pounds his sandal on the wooden floor, the scene slowly reveals some famous interlopers. Depp listens (to the song, we hope) on headphones, at the foot of McCartney’s piano. And then, one by one, more celebs materialize and it becomes the sort of party one would expect to spring up around a Beatle, complete with a twist ending.

The tune comes from McCartney’s latest album, New, which came out earlier this month. Look for the Rolling Stone issue with McCartney on stands and in the iTunes App Store this Friday, October 25th, and watch a behind-the-scenes video about the making of “Queenie Eye.”
