As it turns out, Our Lady Meryl Streep has a perfectly valid excuse for being absent from the August: Osage County promotional circuit. The Oscar winner has been gracing the Cape Town set of The Giver, the adaptation of Lois Lowry’s children’s novel.
Streep is currently assuming the role of Chief Elder, the leader of the novel’s utopian community who is elected every decade. The character’s professional duties include making speeches, giving out assignments to the eleven-year-olds, and judging from a new candid photo, rocking a surprisingly chic hair style for a sexagenarian. The snapshot of the actress in character reveals that the production’s hair department isn’t letting any elderly character denotations curb her style—by putting the actress in a sleek long gray wig with silver highlights and sassy, blunt bangs. (Bangs that will certainly give Michelle Obama’s beloved fringe a run for its money.)
